I always smile and say I don't know.
Even if I do know.
Making a documentary isn't about me (unless it is, but even then).
It's about keeping people talking.
It's about getting as much interview as possible, letting your subject go where it's exciting for them (and capturing that excitement), then guiding the interview back (if necessary).
It's about getting your subject to open up, to reveal themselves to you...
And to the camera: thus to the audience, and to the world.
