How to Capture Magical Street Footage

How to Capture Magical Street Footage

I learned something this weekend filming spring break on Miami Beach.

Sometimes, it takes many, many hours to find “the shot.” It’s like fishing, but for documentary footage.

Sure, the possibility exists where everything clicks and you just capture gold non-stop.

But the more likely scenario is that the world is just a chaos.

And in order to mine this chaos into documentary gold, you’re going to have to walk around, and push yourself into weird parts of society, and just snoop your nose into situations, and move around for hours.

If you’re filming street photography / documentary stuff…

Remember: It takes hours to mine the situation into a golden moment. Just keep going.

Eventually, you’ll stumble on something where the camera work & the situation lines up perfectly.

Sometimes, you get just one golden moment. (I had like… 4 or 5 this weekend).

But sometimes, you get nothing. And that’s okay too.

I was able to capture this incredible moment on the streets of Miami Beach only because I was walking around for hours shooting alright stuff —
