Is a Depressed Extrovert an Introvert?

Is a Depressed Extrovert an Introvert?

Some people are extroverts. Some are introverts.

But what happens when an extrovert becomes depressed?

Do they magically transform into introverts forevermore?

No.

They temporarily shut down, just like anybody else.

But this presents unique challenges to the extrovert. They tend to suffer privately, where nobody can see them. They feel they must maintain a hyper-exterior facade in order to be 'all there' for their friends and family (even if they are depressed, the appearance of extroversion is there).

But inside the extrovert something feels different. It may even feel broken.

A depressed extrovert is not an introvert.

Nor is an excited introvert an extrovert.

We are who we are.

Shit happens. A depressed extrovert is in no way 'broken.'

To get back to Extrovert Nirvana: Recognize this state is temporary, be extremely compassionate to yourself & build on your natural strengths.

If you're a born introvert, build on that. If you're a born extrovert, build on that. If you're a depressed introvert, heal thyself & build on that. If you're a depressed extrovert, heal thyself & build on that.

Only in this way can we transcend mediocrity in our lifetimes & truly experience the good life.
