Keep Your Festival Wrist Bands Loose
I’m a bit of a n00b when it comes to music festival culture. But this weekend I’m working the Rolling Loud music festival, and have become acquainted with a whole new world.
One of the details that have fascinated me is the way the crew here preemptively kept their festival wristbands loose. I didn’t understand why at first.
But it turns out, that if you keep them loose, so they can easily slide off your hands, you can put them on other people who need access to certain places. You slip your wristband off, hand it over to your bud, they go and do whatever it is they have to do, and then they come back and hand it to you.
I noticed a lot of people were snuck into the festival proper in this manner.
Once you’re inside, you remove your loose wristband, hand it to an assistant that runs outside the festival gates and hands your wristband to whoever, then both of you walk into the festival. This new person then removes the wristband and hands it back to you.
It’s like an underground economy based on life-hacks & favors. Next time you’re at a music festival, or any exclusive event that has music festival style wristbands, keep the wristbands loose.
